15 minutes. That is the time I get allocated when you come in to see me as a patient. Some genius worked out that this was the optimal amount of time for me to meet and get to know you, take a history, make a diagnosis, offer treatment and consider some preventative care. Its insane. And yet, that’s what I do everyday. Up to 28 times as a matter of fact.
So why are these 15 minutes valuable to you? Could it change your life?
When you enter the consultation room it becomes all about you. My focus is 100 percent on you and on working out how best I can help you to stay or become a healthy and happy person.
Who will do that for you today, this week or even this month? Sure, we won’t solve everything in your life, but its a start, and I’m invested in you because you are my patient, I am your doctor, and that means something.
So here are questions to think about:
When was the last time you discussed your physical health with someone who could offer you an educated and experienced perspective on it?
When was the last time you checked up on whether you should get that sexual health check and felt comfortable enough to ask questions about it?
Do you have a physical symptom you feel apprehensive about bringing up?
When did you last talk to someone openly about the challenges you face without worrying about what they may think of you or of what personal information may get out?
We all want to be healthy and happy people. What can we do today to work towards that goal? This is really what those 15 minutes are about and its amazing what can be addressed in that time. The added bonus – its the start of a partnership with someone who has a genuine interest in you living your best life.
Make some time to take care of yourself.
